Busy bee....

What I am working on right now....

My first ever quilt top:

A quilt for my mom who picked out this fabric from a cute quilt shop in Charleston called "People, Places, & Quilts". It was selected by Better Homes and Gardens as one of North America's top ten quilt shops! If you are ever in the area, check them out  or on their website here.

One of my friends is having a little girl in three months! This will be for her:

The plan is for these three to get sandwiched and quilted in the next 2 weeks....fingers crossed!

I'd love to see what ya'll are working on ...leave a comment!

Feeling like a Billion Bucks!!!!!

Let me begin by saying that I am completely aware that the saying is "feeling like a million bucks", but my fashion inspiration of the week is that Jessica Simpson's fashion line is about to hit it's Billion dollar mark!

The best part about it is supposedly she will be the first celebrity fashion line to hit that mark! I am so happy to hear this because I am a huge fan of her line (her shoes and purses more than anything) and I find myself rooting for her. The media is so brutal as far as she is concerned and always over the silliest stuff!

Also I want to say as the holidays get closer I get more and more inspired but my time to work on projects gets smaller and smaller. I am now carrying 2 inspiration notebooks around just in case I put one down and leave it (which I tend to do a lot).  I have seen so many cute items that I want to work on but unfortunately I will have to get a better hold on the ones I'm already working on. I have four quilts to finish! I will be posting pictures of all my projects soon! But for now until I get over this stubborn case of tonsillitis and start feeling like a million bucks myself or for this post sake a billion bucks, I will be staying in bed with my cat and Lifetime Movie Network's FaLaLaLifetime! Fifa (my kitten) makes such good company as I lay here reading blogs and trying to get better!

Till next time,

Black Swan

Today is the day that I have been waiting for; the movie Black Swan came out today and I cannot wait to see it. I danced, primarily ballet, for 23 years of my life and miss it everyday. As I sit here and watch The Turning Point, I can't help but come to the seemingly obvious realization that all of my style preferences and inspirations, both in fashion, my own personal style, and design, come from a life full of theatrical ballets, sparkling costumes, beautiful makeup and everything dainty and graceful. I loved every minute of it then and probably will forever. I believe I will always be a ballerina in my heart. In honor of the release and newfound understanding, I plan to design a quilt representing all of these things- the graceful movement of a ballerina, all the glamour of the costumes, and drama of the performance. I promise to post all the way through the process.

Now speaking of projects, as I read the blog posts today from the ones I follow, one caught my attention and helped me set kind of a backwards New Year's Resolution. Instead of setting a goal for what I will be doing after the New Year, I am setting a goal for what I want to do until the New Year. I will be taking the challenge by Lisa from Vintage Modern Quilts. She has come up with a challenge called the Sew it Up (WIP) challenge. This challenge is to try and finish all, or at least as many works in progress as you can by the New Year. Getting some more projects finished, I feel will help my motivation and confidence. You can learn more about this challenge and even join in on the fun by clicking here!

Last but definitely not least,  wanted to mention that Tim Gunn was on Conan tonight promoting his new book Gunn's Golden Rules: Life's Little Lessons for Making It Work.

The whole interview was great, but one thing stood out to me more than anything. As someone had made fun of an audience member for his poorly picked outfit, Tim Gunn simply asked him if he took responsibility for his outfit. When the audience member responded yes, Tim Gunn replied that that is what truly is important. Now while I also agree with him that some things should not be worn ( like jeggings), overall it doesn't matter what your style is as long as you wear it confidently and take responsibility for it. Hope ya'll have a good night! Until next time!

Wings and Quilts

I'm so excited because this is my first EVER blog post! I have been trying to decide how to approach the beginning, that all-scary first post. A blank page can be quite intimidating! But I cannot think of any better way to start than to talk about quilting and fashion in the same post!

I am inspired by so many things around me, but to be honest I am slightly bias to anything with feathers or that sparkles and there is no lack of glitter and feathers at the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show. The VS Fashion Show aired at 10 o'clock tonight on CBS. As always I was so excited to see what wings the designers came up with this year. But, I was especially excited when in the scene following Katy Perry's performance of her song "Firework", the angels came out in a scene of country themed outfits and wings. One model came out wearing a quilt as the train to her ensemble and wings that appeared to be crocheted.

Another standout outfit from this scene was an angel with quilted wings!

As I read through the some of the reviews of the show, I saw a few comments talking about how Victoria's Secret had made quilts "hot". As a beginning quilter with a serious passion and love for fashion, this made my night and gave me the perfect inspiration for my first post. To see more pictures from this year's show and learn more about the show and it's angels click here. If you missed the show and are kicking yourself with some really cute high heels- you can stop now, because the show will have an encore performance on the CW on Wed. Dec. 8 at 8!

Thanks for tuning in for my first post! Stay tuned for more inspirations and thoughts from yours truly!
